What is Gyan Mudra?

This is the Popular and powerful Mudra in Yogic science, it also looks very simple. Gyan Mudra is derived from the Sanskrit word “Gyan” means Wisdom or Knowledge and “Mudra” means gesture. We heard from our ancestors that yogis perform this mudra for “Sadhana” to retain their power to manage the entire cosmos. What are Mudras? How do they work?

The Gyan Mudra supports better mental and physical health it is also known as “Dhayn Mudra” or “Chin Mudra” and “Vayu – vardhak Mudra” , this mudra is practised whilst in a seated meditation pose. The beauty of this mudra is that it can also be performed with a dance pose or different Asana like standing Asana Utthitha Parshvakonasana (Extended side angle pose).

Method :

Step 1.: Select a calm and clean place where fresh air runs around you.

Step 2.: Sit on your Yoga mate in a comfortable pose like “Sukhasana” “Siddhasana” or “Padmasana”

Step 3.: Keep your both hands on your knees

Step 4.: Keep your eyes closed, do deep breathing three times and be relaxed.

Step 5.: First, open your palm, then join the upper part of your Index finger with the upper part of your thumb.

Step 5.: Other fingers will remain open and straight.

Step 6.: If your palm faces the sky, called “Chin Mudra”

Step 7.: If your palm facing the ground called “Gyan Mudra”

Step 8.: Keep your breathing pattern normal, do not increase or decrease your breath.

Step 9.: Focus on your breathing (How Inhaling and exhaling)

Step 10.: Slight smile on your face.

Note :

Nowadays, people perform the Gyan Mudra during walking, standing or sitting in front of the Television, this is the magic of the Mudra and you will get the same benefit by performing it. So that as and when you get some time you have to perform this Mudra.
